The primary mission of the Business Department at Smith Christian University is to prepare students to fulfill their God-given calling as a marketplace missionary (Eph 4:12). While striving to accomplish this mission, the department develops the student's ability to creatively solve real-world problems by utilizing higher-level critical thinking skills. In doing this, we hope to encourage students to become self-directed, life-long learners and teachers. To create an environment that will provide students with opportunities to develop the skills they will need to be successful in a 21st century ?flat-world', the department gives students a business education built on a foundation of management, economic, and financial theory combined with an opportunity to receive practical training and coaching from professionals with real-world experience. In addition to the business curriculum, all students in the program receive 30 credits of Bible and theology training. We believe this enhances the student's spiritual preparation for a life of serving God in the marketplace.
Upon graduation, students will be prepared for careers in business, finance, banking, international business, management and church administration. Students attending Smith have an excellent opportunity to pursue careers in any of these fields. Smith Christian University not only provides students with an excellent place to start a career, but it also provides students with countless opportunities for jobs, internships and on-site training.
1 Corinthians 12:28 states the following: "And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration (.)." We believe that God has not only given many individuals the gift of administration, but we also believe that God has called these individuals to serve Him as marketplace missionaries. The process of preparing for a calling as a marketplace missionary includes receiving an education experience that is similar to a business program at any major university since graduates must have the credibility (education/experience) to enter the marketplace.
The real difference in our program is the 30-credit focus in Bible and theology; graduates not only know what they believe, they understand how to communicate that belief to a lost and dying world. The reason a student would choose to become a business major at Smith Christian University is simple-they know that God has called them to a non-traditional ministry that will change the world! And one person can certainly change the world for God (Acts 19:9 -10).
